From its creation in 1997, the Central Bank of Cuba exercises the function of issuing organism of the national currency in the country, beginning that same year the emission of the first Series of Notes in Cuban Pesos to name of the BCC. Later on, continuing with the rest of the denominations, until completing all the monetary signs with notes emitted by the Central Bank of Cuba.

This way, it corresponds to the present time emissions those carried out by the Central Bank of Cuba most of the notes in circulation. The currencies, so much of the Cuban Peso as of the Convertible Peso, have been emitted regularly in agreement with the necessities of the circulation in the country.

The first emission of notes to name of the Central Bank of Cuba took place in 1997. The pieces were produced in Cuba, and have elements of security, as the water marks and micro-printed legends. This first emission is integrated by notes of facial values of 5 and 10 pesos.

The second emission of notes to name of the Central Bank of Cuba was presented in 1998. The pieces were produced in Cuba and have elements of security, that incorporates the thread of security with micro-printed legends in this emission, and its water marks .It integrate it notes of facial values of 20 and 50 pesos.

The third emission of notes with facial value of 100 pesos to name of the Central Bank of Cuba corresponds to the year of 2000. The pieces were produced in Cuba and have the same elements of security that incorporated to the notes of 20 and 50 pesos. This emission was dedicated to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Central Banking in Cuba.

To the previous emissions was united, in the year 2001, that of the note of 1 peso, with general characteristics, and similar measures of security to the denominations of 5 and 10 pesos.

In the year 2003 the Central Bank of Cuba commences the emission of two commemorative notes: The first one with facial value of 1 peso at times of the 150th Anniversary of Our National Hero's Birthday José Marti, and the second with facial value of 20 pesos in recall of the 50th Anniversary of the Assault of the Moncada Headquarter.

The currencies in circulation at the moment correspond to the facial values of 1, 2, 5 and 20 cents and 1 and 3 pesos. The currencies of 1, 2 and 5 cents that maintain their legal course ,are those coined starting from the year 1915 soon after the promulgation of the first law that dispose the coinage of the national currency.

In the year 1962 began to be coined the currency of 20 cents at the moment in circulation, that of 1 peso in the year 1983 and starting from the year 1990 that of 3 pesos.
In the year 1994 are introduced in the country the circulation of the convertible Cuban Peso, equivalent to the North American dollar, to facilitate the transactions of foreign currencies with an own monetary sign.
With facial values of 1, 3, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 convertible pesos, they were emitted in 1994 by the National Bank of Cuba for their acceptance in the commercial branch of goods and services, which operates in foreign currencies. The first coinage of the convertible currencies was done in the year 1994 with facial values of 5, 10, 25 and 50 convertible cents and 1 convertible peso, being carried out its emission at the beginning of the following year.
