The Ministry of the Heavy-Mechanic Industry is the organism in charge
of directing, to execute and to control the politics of the State and
the Government as for the activities of:
- The steel industry and mechanics.
- Recovery of waste of material goods, products and residuals of recycled
materials.
Its origin dates of 1974 as a result of the invigoration of the investing
process in the industrial sphere that visionary conceived the Commander
Ernesto Che Guevara in the beginnings of the Revolution to the front of
the Ministry of Industries.
The mechanical industry undoubtedly is a creation of the Cuban revolution,
a product of it.
Before the Revolution this industry didn't exist in Cuba, everything
was imported; we depended in everything of the North American industry.
In this primary stage the creation of the SIME the consolidation of an
entire series of productions that the country had prioritized was, and
that were necessary to the economic development of our nation.
From its creation the SIME has had a vertical line of development thanks
to a well investor plan structured and thought of production of: auto
driving equipments, railroads, agricultural machinery, iron and steel
industry, equipments for the construction, machine tools, medical equipments
and clinical furniture, supplies for the hotel industry, etc.
Starting from 1993 the organism begins to reorder its capacities towards
new lines of products in function of the necessities of the emergent sector
of the economy in this stage of special period, and the export, incorporating
in 1994 other activities like the electronics, the computer science the
recycling and the possibilities to import-export in the activities that
concern them, starting from a reorganization of the state apparatus that
looked for to go transferring the administration of the economy in an
important measure to the companies, and to diminish the protagonist of
the central organism in an important quantity of decisions that in fact
should be taken by the companies.
