Vehicles

Applicable to tourists:

  • The travelers that arrive to the country like tourists will be able to import a light vehicle of motor temporarily for a term of up to 30 days, extensible for 30 days with previous request.
  • The procedure of the temporary import will be made by the customs for where the traveler arrives to the country.
  • The Customs will be able to prepare the deposit of a guarantee like requirement to authorize the temporary import.
  • The tourist is in the obligation of re-exporting the vehicle at his exit of the country or at the expiration of the granted term.

Applicable to temporary residents and juridical foreign persons:

To these effects it will be considered Temporary Residents, those persons that have been authorized to reside in the country for a period less than six months without becoming Permanent.

  • The import of vehicles for use of mercantile branches of foreign societies credited in Cuba and their representatives, will be authorized by the Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of Cuba.
  • The import of vehicles for use of Representations of foreign banks credited in Cuba and their representatives will be authorized by the Central Bank of Cuba.
  • The import of vehicles for use of the travel agencies and its representatives will be authorized by the Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of Cuba.
  • The import of vehicles for use of Joint-Stock companies and international economic associations will be authorized by the Ministry of the Foreign Commerce.
  • The import of vehicles for use of operators of "Free Zones" will be authorized by the Ministry for the Foreign Investment and the Collaboration.

In all these cases, the vehicles won't be able to have more than 4 years of having manufactured and their import will have a definitive character, should pay the corresponding costumes fee, upward to 100% of the value in customs.

Applicable to Missions and Diplomatic Agents and to Agencies of Press Foreigners:

The import of vehicles for Diplomatic and Consular Missions, as well as for the foreign Press credited in Cuba, it is governed by special dispositions and the authorizations that grants them the Ministry of Foreign Relationships.

Weapons and Explosives

General dispositions:

  • It is forbidden the import and export of firearms and ammunition, whichever it is its caliber, without the expressed authorization of the Headquarters of Public Security of the Ministry of the Interior.
  • It is forbidden the import and export of explosive and dangerous chemical substances.

In the case of tourists that come to the country with the purpose of carrying out sporting hunt or to participate in shot competitions, and for it they import firearms and/or ammunitions, they will process the permits corresponding with the competent authorities before the arrival to the country, and to present them in the moment of the control in the entrance Customs.

In all the cases in that the Permission cannot be presented in the moment from the entrance to the country, the weapons and/or ammunitions will be retained by one period of up to 30 days, extensible for 30 days more, elapsed which, without having been extracted, they will be declared in legal abandonment.

Medicines, Biological Products, etc.

General dispositions:

  • All the travelers will be able to import free of the payment of the of customers fee, up to 10 Kg. of medications, whenever the same ones come in their original containers.
  • It is only allowed the import and export of hallucinogenic substances or psycho tropics in small quantities for personal use.
  • It is forbidden the import and export of drugs and narcotics

Applicable to the import:

It is prohibited the Import of:

  • Plasma derived substances, biological products (vaccines, anti-serums, stumps of microorganisms, cultivation means, etc.) except for when they are import with scientific ends or of investigation, which should be authorized by the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP).

Applicable to the export:

It is forbidden the export of:

  • Medications of national production not registered by the Registration of Medications of the MINSAP.
  • Medications that are limited for intra-hospital use, except for the cases of continuity of properly authorized treatments, and documented by a Hospital Center.
  • Elaborated Medications and patented in the country that for their therapeutic utility, that by their use have extended outside of the national territory, except in those cases in that its acquisition is proven in a sale center authorized through the presentation of the corresponding purchase invoice.

Patrimonial Goods

Applicable at the Entrance to the Country:

The works of art and the goods of museums should be declared at the entrance to the country if one has the intention of re-export them.

Applicable to the Exit of the Country:

The works of art and other goods of museums that have been previously imported by a traveler will only be able to re-export, starting from the presentation, in the moment of the exit of the country, of the document emitted by the Customs, when they were imported temporarily.

It is forbidden the export of everything or part of a property considered cultural patrimony of the nation or of museums value, without the previous authorization of the National Registration of Cultural Properties.

The works of art and the craft that have not museums value will be authorized by the National registration of Cultural Properties.

Animals and plants

Species of the flora and the fauna in extinction danger:

For the import and export of specimens (alive or dead, their parts or derived) or species of the flora and the wild fauna (marine, fluvial, latchstring or terrestrial) in extinction danger, and protected by the Convention on the International Trade of Extinct Species, the presentation is required before the Customs of the corresponding CITES permission.

Among these protected species are the parrot, the crocodile and the tortoiseshell.

Domestic and affective animals:

Except for those animals whose import and export is regulated by the CITES Convention , the travelers will be able to care or to export any affective or domestic animal of its property, whenever the dispositions of the veterinary authorities of frontier are executed locust relative to the vaccination certificates and other documents internationally demanded.

Electro domestic Appliances

Except for those specifically forbidden, the travelers will be able to import any appliance whenever the value of the same ones, together with that of the rest of the articles, doesn’t surpass the allowed maximum limit of $250.00 pesos.

The import of electro domestic appliances for the tourists like part of their belongings, it will be regulated by the specific dispositions that govern the control to this type of travelers.

Currency and Values

Applicable at the Entrance to the country:

  • It is allowed the import of up to a hundred pesos national currency
  • It is allowed the import of the instrument of payment denominated convertible peso until the quantity of two hundred pesos.
  • All the travelers will be able to import freely convertible currency cash, turns checks, bank transfers, checks or other payment means without limit in the quantity. However, when in the case of travelers non residents in the country the import surpasses the five thousand dollars, and it is pretended to extract a quantity later on, bigger than this figure, you will fill a Declaration of Values in the entrance customs, to the ends with justifying its import, in the moment of the exit of the country.
  • All the travelers will be able to import objects of metals and precious stones without limit in the quantity. However, in the case of the non residents in the country, when the value of the same ones surpasses the five thousand dollars and it is pretended to extract a quantity whose value is superior later on, to this figure, you will fill a Declaration of Values in the entrance customs, to the ends with justifying its import, in the moment of the exit of the country.

Applicable to the Exit of the country:

  • It is forbidden the export of national currency for a superior value to a hundred pesos.
  • It is forbidden the export of the instrument of payment denominated convertible peso for a superior value to two hundred pesos.
  • In the case of the travelers’ non residents in the country, it is allowed the export of up to five thousand pesos in convertible currency and other payment values. To export a bigger quantity to this, it will be credited that was carried with when entering to the country, by means of the presentation of the Declaration of Values certified by the entrance customs, or by means of bank document that demonstrates that it has been acquired permissibly.
  • In the case of the travelers’ non residents in the country, this allowed the export of objects of metals and precious stones, until a value of five thousand pesos. To export a bigger value to this, it will be credited that were imported temporarily, or that they have been acquired permissibly.

Communication Sets

The travelers will need have expressed authorization of the Ministry of Communications for the import of the following sets and means of communications:

  • Radio Transmitters and Receivers
  • Fax Terminals
  • Boards and Phone sets
  • Central Boards Switches and telegraphic sets and fax
  • Radio and TV Professionals Sets that differ of the domestic ones
  • Global Positional Systems Sets (GPS)
  • Satellite Dish Receivers and Stations
  • Terrestrial Stations of Satellite Communications

When some of these sets are part of the personal baggage of a traveler, been this accompanied one or not, and are not prepared in the moment of the dispatch of the referred authorization, the same ones will be retained in the customs of entrance, by one period of up to 30 days, extensible for expressed application to 30 days more. Elapsed this term, without having been presented the corresponding authorization, the sets will be declared in legal abandonment.

Bent tobaccos

  • It is authorized the export of up to 23 loose tobaccos, without any other step or document to present.
  • If it is seek to export bent tobaccos above this quantity (23 units) you will be forced to claim original invoices, and its copies in the store where you acquired them, and to give the copy in the Customs for where you will abandon the country. The bent tobaccos will be in original containers, with the official qualifications, including the new holographic stamp.

Of not fulfilling the essential requirement of licit acquisition, the product will be confiscated by the Customs.

Products of animal and vegetable origin

The nutritious products of animal and vegetable origin should be industrially processed and tightly packed in its original container. The rest of the articles of animal origin and vegetable will be subjected to the inspection on the part of the veterinary authorities, and sanitary medics of frontier who will decide if they are liberated or not.
